The oral trial for the death of Lucas Lin, the 5-year-old boy who drowned in the pool of his school in La Plata in February 2019, began at the Criminal Oral Court (TOC) III. In this case, eight people face charges for the child's death during the summer camp that was held at Lincoln School.
According to the reconstruction of events, on February 5, 2019, Lin remained submerged in the pool without assistance for 15 to 20 minutes, resulting in his tragic death. During the investigative stage, the statements of witnesses and participants in the rescue of the minor were crucial to describe the precarious setting in which the children enjoyed their vacation, as well as the shock caused by Lin's death.
Local media highlighted that a police officer and a former employee of the school mentioned the lack of stretchers and basic emergency equipment during the rescue. The victim was carried in arms to the director's office where resuscitation maneuvers were performed that proved unsuccessful, confirming his death at the scene.
The case alleges that school authorities altered documentation and attempted to obstruct the investigation, which delayed the judicial process. The accused are Carolina Muno and Martín Argüelles for the crime of abandonment of a person followed by death, and Osvaldo Ramos, Marcos Echaniz, Rosana Costa, and Rubén Monreal for negligent homicide. Former municipal inspectors Myriam Viviana Salinas and Diego De Luca face charges for failure to comply with public official duties.
